Energy Monitoring on Stand-Alone Solar PV Driven Cold Storage in the Rural Desert Area

Rural populations either have no reliable electricity from the grid or have it in very distant locations. Small farmers lack on-farm cold storage facilities, leading to post-harvest losses. In addition, conventional refrigeration options have frequently not been accessible enough. Therefore, a decentralized, autonomous and intelligent solar-powered refrigeration system can contribute to the direct preservation of crops. The main objective of this study is to monitor and control decentralized refrigerated warehouses for fresh vegetables using the option of remote console control. This study examines aspects of automatic alerts used to warn of warehouse failure in remote rural areas, in particular the limitations imposed by desert environmental conditions. Data visualization via remotely connected Victron software displays low battery voltage, overload alerts and other warnings over the IP network. The results obtained describe the synthesis of the real-time remote monitoring electrical energy management system based on the Ethernet communication protocol. As a result, it simplifies intervention by farmers and enhances growth in rural off-grid areas. Nevertheless, the socio-economic status of end customers and the lack of financing options for small farmers are the main operating constraints.
