Small UWB Antenna for GPR Applications in VHF/UHF Bands

This work presents a new miniaturized UWB antenna for UHF/VHF GPR. The antenna is a folded exponential tapered slot antenna (ETSA) miniaturized using load impedances, which ensures adaptation in lower frequencies. The antenna is designed on FR4 substrate and has an area of 30 × 30 cm2, simulations are done on CST environment, results show that the antenna is matched, at –6 dB, in the frequency bandwidth 140–2000 MHz, within that it’s gain is higher than 2 dBi. The antenna is fabricated and tested, measurement results are in good concordance with simulation.
