Integration of Renewable Energy Systems in Building: Case of Solar Thermal Collectors and Photovoltaic Panels for the Tertiary and Residential Sector in Algiers

摘要

Solar energy can be used in different ways, from thermal to photovoltaic (PV), in different sectors, including the residential one. This energy can be used by solar thermal collectors or PV panels, which convert it into heat energy used either to heat or to generate electricity. This study defines not only the different types of renewable energy systems and some examples of dimensioning and performance calculations for some real buildings. But above all, it highlights the technical requirements for integrating these systems into buildings from an aesthetic and architectural point of view. This is based on analysis of integration of those systems in a residential building, and in an educational building, then on a state of art about the subject. Like all components of a building, such as the door and the window, solar collector or photovoltaic panel must be considered as an element of the architectural composition. To achieve this, the designer must integrate it into the design of a façade, roof and envelope, while preserving its specific formal or functional characteristics.
