The Application of Artificial Intelligence Combined with Parametric Digital Design Tools in the Ceramic Modeling Design Process for Beginners. — A Geometric Vase as an Example

The purpose of this study is to explore the process of using AI as a design tool in ceramic modeling design, and use vase modeling design as three modeling tools: AI-generated 3D, AI-generated GHpython, and parametric adjustment, and use experimental tests to conduct feasibility assessments. During the experiment, three participants with different professional backgrounds were recruited and used three design tools: SHAP-E text generation 3D, ChatGPT generation Ghpython, and Grasshopper constructed by the researcher to adjust the shape of the vase. A retrospective interview was conducted after the test, and the results showed that each tool has its own advantages and disadvantages. For example, AI text generation 3D can produce unexpected vase shapes, but the performance in style is not as good as expected. Ghpython generated by ChatGPT is relatively stable, but it is difficult to deal with details, especially the application of complex shapes. The traditional Grasshopper is easier to control, and participants generally think the shape is more reasonable. The final result of this study shows that AI text generation 3D is more creative in shape, but not accurate enough. It is not feasible for AI to generate Ghpython and then generate 3D. It can only generate simple shapes, and the details are difficult to adjust. Parametric adjustment has a relatively higher degree of control over styling than the former two.
