Incorporating Artificial Intelligence into Design Criteria Considerations

  • Gilbert Drzyzga

摘要

The use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) methods in everyday products is increasing. As AI technologies become more prevalent in interactive software applications and user interfaces (UIs), this study investigates the incorporation of AI into the consideration of design criteria. In particular, it explores the implications for issues that arise between AI and the field and context of Human–Computer Interaction (HCI). Through a two-part literature review (AI & HCI related topics) followed by a multi-stage analysis process, key findings were identified that highlight the need to explore the nature of HCI in AI-based UIs. It was found that there is a need to extend or add new principles to established ones. The findings also highlight the importance of understanding fundamental aspects of human-AI collaboration. However, they also suggest potential avenues for further guidance in the area of human interaction with AI-based outputs, such as comprehensibility, trust, transparency and cultural issues in the design of AI-based UIs.
