Reacting Mixtures

In this first chapter on reacting mixtures, we introduce chemical balances and then study energetic and entropic changes in reactions. Properties of all reactants must use compatible reference values, which requires proper enthalpy and entropy of formation, where the third Law of Thermodynamics comes into play. Evaluation of reactive equilibria leads to the law of mass action, and Le Chatelier’s principle.
