Gas Engines

  • Henning Struchtrup

摘要

This chapter discusses efficiency improving modifications of engines using gases as working fluid. Specifically, we study internal heat exchange by means of regenerators in Stirling and Ericsson cycles, and in advanced gas turbine systems, as well as compression with intercooling. State of the art combined cycles employ heat recovery steam generators to transfer heat from the exhaust of a gas turbine to the boiler a steam power plant. Finally, we study aircraft engines, where the discussion of propulsive and thermal efficiencies shows the considerable advantages of bypass turbofan engines due to reduction of external irreversibilities.
