The Effectiveness of the Work of International Organizations: The Current State and Prospects for Evaluating Their Work

The article is devoted to the study of the problems of determining the effectiveness of the activities of international organizations, the criteria of the effectiveness of the work of these organizations. The question of the role and importance of international organizations in the modern world is considered, the main international intergovernmental organizations that ensure the maintenance of peace and security in the world are analyzed. The activity of the UN as the main institution, which is assigned the task of maintaining peace and security in the world by its Charter, is studied in detail. The authors emphasized the role of the UN in resolving conflicts in the world, identified the main problems of this organization’s work, as well as the availability of legally established means in the event of a threat to peace and security. Attention is paid to the problems of the effectiveness of the UN in the conditions of a full-scale war in Ukraine. It was emphasized that the main obstacle to the full-fledged activity of the UN today is the presence of aggressor states in its composition and the veto mechanism, which blocks the mechanism of introducing legally prescribed measures to apply the provisions of the UN General Assembly Resolutions. The issue of determining efficiency as a basic feature of the activity of international organizations is analyzed. The level of trust of Ukrainians in international institutions in the conditions of a full-scale war, as well as the main wars waged by the Russian Federation during the last 30 years, was studied. Ways to increase the efficiency of international organizations are proposed, in particular, through periodic verification (auditing) of the activities of international organizations for their effectiveness and the creation of transparent mechanisms for combating the unproductive work of international organizations.
