Democratization: More People
摘要
This chapter describes how the shift to a knowledge-intensive, digital society and post-5G are moving semiconductors up the value chain and into society’s infrastructure, which makes time performance the new metric for semiconductors and motivates the University of Tokyo’s efforts to improve both IC energy and development efficiency. It explains in detail agile development and how it can be implemented to improve chip design and verification efficiency. Specifically, it details how to build a silicon compiler to enable designing chips like writing software. It goes on to introduce the Agile-X platform and development center the University launched to use agile design and prototyping to increase the chip development population by tenfold. The chapter closes with two anecdotes of international brain circulation involving TSMC founder and the VLSI Symposium.
