Occupational Safety and Health Conditions in Ethiopia’s Apparel IPs

This chapter uses the shared responsibility perspective to examine the occupational safety and the health situations of workers employed by three multinational apparel exporting manufacturers in three selected IPs of the country (Hawassa, Bole Lemi 1, and EIZ). Hence, it analyzes the physical, chemical, psychological, and gender dimensions of OSH of workers at those multinational apparel manufacturers. Beyond describing the OSH conditions of workers, the chapter contains the underlying explanations for the gloomy OSH conditions local industrial workers in the country’s apparel exporting industrial parks.
