Hydrogeological Basin of the Palermo Mountains

The hydrogeological basin of the Palermo Mountains includes a sector of the province of Palermo and a large part of the western and eastern portion of the Palermo Metropolitan Area (Fig. 6.1). The Oreto River, with its valley rising into the mountain range, divides it into two large sectors: the south-eastern sector, which includes the whole watershed with the mountains of Piana degli Albanesi and the branches towards the Jato and Eleuterio Rivers and the coast east of Palermo; the north-western sector, which includes the western half-arc of the mountains facing the Conca d’Oro, with the western extensions facing the Gulf of Castellammare.
