Trapani Mountains Hydrogeological Basin

The Trapani Mountains are located at the western end of Sicily and are bounded to the north by the Tyrrhenian Sea, to the east by the Palermo Mountains, to the south by the so-called Castelvetrano Basin and to the west by the Strait of Sicily (Fig. 12.1). The most important reliefs are Mt Sparagio and Mt Inici, characterised by altitudes around 1.000 m (1.100 and 980 m, respectively). The Trapani Mts are formed by the Miocene tectonic superposition of various carbonate, carbonate-silicicoclastic and terrigenous units, dating from the Upper Triassic to the Upper Miocene, directed towards the S and SE.
