Regulatory Responses and Emerging Global Scripts in the Governance of AI in Education

Looking at a selection of approaches to AI governance, this chapter provides an overview of the governance of AI in education (GAIE) and considers these through the lens of CIE research. We first begin with a brief look at education and the role AI might play in its execution. An examination of the selected AI frameworks from the European CommissionEuropean Commission, TürkiyeTürkiye, ChinaChina, UNESCOUNESCO, and the US Department of EducationUS Department of Education follows. Then, we consider some potential critical points of interest for CIE scholars as they relate to these and other frameworks before we provide some concluding thoughts about the role of CIE in continued interplay with developing AI capacities and deployment.
