Mid-Air Hand Gesture Design Tool for Interaction Designers
摘要
Mid-air hand gesture interfaces have proliferated with the increased use of immersive computing technologies. Yet, hand gesture interaction design is often overlooked, resulting in a lack of interaction design guidelines and best practices, poor user experiences (UX), and a lack of consistency across these interfaces. Hence, the involvement of interaction designers for better hand gesture designs has become important. Hence, aiming to aid designers, we introduce a novel hand gesture design tool that enables designers to intuitively prototype 3D hand gestures for gesture-controlled interfaces. This tool allows designing mid-air hand gestures using free hands, reducing the learning curve of tool-specific mechanisms and 3D modeling skills, overcoming the challenges associated with custom gesture creation for interaction designers. We have made this tool open-source for collaborative community use. As hand gesture recognition research advances, along with its applications, with this work, we further highlight the importance of facilitating interaction designers with tools for enhancing the adoption, UX, and usability of hand gesture-controlled interfaces.
