Cementless Porous-Coated Metaphyseal Sleeves Used for Bone Defects in Revision Total Knee Arthroplasty

This chapter reviews recent advances on cementless porous-coated metaphyseal sleeves used for bone defects in revision total knee arthroplasty (rTKA). The indications of cementless metaphyseal sleeves are all tibial and femoral osseous defects Anderson Orthopaedic Research Institute (AORI) grade 2 and 3. The contraindications are cases where stable uncemented fixation of the metaphyseal implant is not feasible. Several reports have found that the utilization of metaphyseal sleeves in the management of bone defects in rTKAs can provide stable fixation and substantially improve the clinical scores at the mid-run follow-up. However, more higher-quality long-run studies should be performed to be able to reach scientifically firm conclusions about the true value of highly porous metal sleeves.
