Comparison of Results Between SMILE, Femtolasik and Surface Ablation for Myopia

Various factors impact the visual and refractive outcomes of refractive surgery. In our effort to minimize patient-related variables, we conducted a five-year postoperative study focusing on individuals who underwent SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction) in one eye and FS-LASIK (Femtosecond Laser-Assisted Laser Keratomileusis) in the contralateral eye. The refractive outcomes were found similar between the groups at 5 years postoperatively, along with corneal high-order aberrations. Extensive literature examines the comparative results of SMILE, LASIK, and PRK, all of which have demonstrated efficacy, safety, and predictability in addressing myopia. Notably, SMILE appears to offer potential advantages, particularly concerning corneal high-order aberrations and dry eye symptoms.
