Through the Waves: An Auto-ethnographic Perspective on HCI Design and Research

This paper is an auto-ethnographic review of HCI research and design waves, or paradigms, as seen from the perspective of the author’s personal experience. Through reflection on a series of research projects spanning more than twenty years, the paper explores the answers to questions such as how methodologies are chosen based on worldviews, how they affect findings and conclusions, and what are possible directions for upcoming paradigm shifts in HCI.
