Optimization of Combustion Parameters in Heating Systems to Increase Efficiency and Environmental Protection

Тhe rational consumption of energy and the consequent reduction of the emission of harmful gases into the environment are today’s imperatives. We can expect for them to increase in the future. While users are still trying to reduce energy consumption to reduce costs, the idea of the need to reduce environmental pollution has not yet taken hold despite numerous appeals. Heating systems in public and private buildings offer the possibility of rationalization, especially if they are older. Practical experience and research indicate that due to wear and tear, poor maintenance and sometimes poor fuel quality in the systems, a lower degree of energy utilization (utilization coefficient ETA) is achieved and, consequently, there is higher consumption and increased emission of harmful gases CO2, O2 and CO into the environment. This research aims to use predictive modelling methods that will determine the relation between the level of ETA, coefficient of energy utilization and the emission of CO2, O2 and CO into the environment. For this purpose, measurement and analysis of the exhaust gases of the oil and gas heating system in 38 public and private buildings in the Primorje-Gorski Kotar County in the Republic of Croatia was carried out. Measurements were made on systems of different ages. Appropriate measures in heating systems, even older ones, and regular high-quality maintenance can increase the ETA parameter and reduce the emission of harmful gases into the environment. The goal is to propose measures to maintain the system and increase energy utilization in heating systems.
