Population and Environment

Humans are the beings with the greatest population increase on Earth and the world population has exceeded eight billion. The expanding economic activity has created a gap between the need for and the supply of natural resources, and the ecological footprint now exceeds biocapacity by 70%. There are limits to Earth’s capacity to supply resources and exceeding these limits has as a result the many environmental problems we face today. Ecological balance requires a proper relationship between population and production.
