Which Capitalism?

  • Theodore P. Lianos

摘要

Capitalism is a system based on private property of the means of production and its functioning rests on the operation of free markets and free choices within a legal framework and the rules of the State. It is often characterized as a “grow or die” system that favors overconsumption and overpopulation. Some authors like to characterize capitalism on the basis of some characteristic that they consider fundamental for its operation. Thus, we read about monopoly capitalism, oligarchic capitalism, managerial capitalism, State-directed capitalism, political capitalism, crony capitalism, global capitalism, imperialism, etc. Capitalist countries differ greatly due to their different culture, history, level of development, resources, etc., but in general the achievements of capitalism are impressive.
