Limitations that Hinder the Successful Application of a Knowledge Management Model in Research Centers in a Higher Education Institution

Knowledge management plays an important role in both organizations and higher education institutions, as they generate knowledge and through the implementation of a knowledge management model, it allows new knowledge to be generated. However, there are organizational and technological limitations or difficulties that may arise during the application of a knowledge management model in research centers of higher education institutions. The methodology of this research consisted of the application of a questionnaire with predefined questions using a Likert scale. The reliability analysis of the instrument was carried out using Cronbach’s alpha coefficient applied to the identified limiting factors, obtaining a value of 0.93. In this study, seven organizational and technological limitations that arise during the application of a knowledge management model in higher education institutions were analyzed. The results identified areas of opportunity in five of the seven limitations to successfully implement a knowledge management model in research centers of higher education institutions.
