Sustainability and Usability Evaluation of E-Commerce Portals
摘要
Information and communications technologies (ICT) are essential to achieving energy sustainability objectives. With their substantial daily traffic, e-commerce websites are especially important. This study looked into the connection between the most popular e-commerce websites’ sustainability and usability. This study evaluated usability employing accepted web-based user experience criteria. Furthermore, a framework for assessing website elements that support sustainability was put forth. Through an analysis of the features of four tools that quantify sustainability-related factors such as page load time, browser cache usage, JavaScript usage, HTTP request volume, and usage of green servers we gathered a total of 39 sustainability criteria for software. Finally, we evaluated whether usability and sustainability were correlated. There was no significant correlation between usability and sustainability according to our research. Still, the framework this paper develops is a useful tool for sustainability evaluations.
