The Nature and Importance of Reflection

In this chapter, the concept of reflection is explored from the point of view of its importance and nature. How reflection relates to “meaning perspectives” and the emotions is discussed, as well as the fruitful use of reflection, that is, the role of reflection in becoming an authentic professional. Conclusions are based on a detailed study of early teachers, namely, interns at the end of their teacher education course. Issues surrounding non-critical reflection (single-loop learning) and critical reflection (double-loop or transformative learning) are described. My LEARnT framework is presented diagrammatically to illustrate in a simplified way the essence of single-loop and double-loop learning
