This chapter explores essential aspects of electrical and fire safety in operating rooms. It delves into technical concepts like Ohm’s law and the distinction between AC and DC currents, emphasizing the importance of electrical grounding, isolation transformers, and monitoring systems like the line isolation monitor. Physiological effects of electrical shocks are categorized into macroshock and microshock, with attention to their impact on the body. Fire safety considerations encompass identifying fuel sources, oxidizers, and ignition sources within the fire triangle framework, alongside management strategies for operating room fires, including preventive measures, appropriate fire extinguisher selection, and compliance with standards. Principles of fire safety are outlined, such as understanding intraoperative fire dynamics and the significance of fire drills in fostering preparedness among operating room personnel.
