Online Gaming, Maladaptive Consumption, and Regulatory Standards and Options
摘要
Maladaptive consumption has been characterized as excessive, potentially uncontrollableuncontrollable, consumption of products or services that may cause significant harm to consumers themselves, those close to them, and society writ large (Boland et al. in J Consum Aff 54:1178–1194, 2020; Reimann and Jain in J Assoc Consum Res 6:307–314, 2021). Increased academic interest in this phenomenon has been accompanied by calls for various regulatory interventions. Nowhere is this more pronounced than in the context of online gaming.
