Role of Temperature and Additives

Brewing has evolved due to the rise of small-batch beers and microbreweries. Temperature management is crucial for converting complex carbohydrates into fermentable sugars and ensuring optimal yeast performance during fermentation. The ideal temperature range is between 62 and 75 °C. Mashing enzymes affect mash pH, starch solubility, and yeast nutrients. Beer serving temperature affects flavor and characteristics. Beer types vary, with bottom-shelf beers, malt liquor, and mass-produced light lagers served at 1–4 °C, lagers at 10–13 °C, and strong, rich ales at 13–16 °C. Adjuncts are increasingly used in the beer industry to reduce costs and diversify product lines, but they can affect the final product’s quality.
