Factors Affecting CO2 Emissions in Some Asian Developing Countries

This paper analyzes the factors affecting CO2 emissions in ten Asian developing countries, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Oman, Pakistan, the Philippines, Qatar, Thailand, the United Arab Emirates, Uzbekistan, and Vietnam. Ordinary least squares method is used to appraise the effects of GDP, FDI, and nonrenewable energy on CO2 emissions. By analyzing panel data from 2011 to 2020, the authors investigate that these variables have positive impacts on CO2 emissions, of which GDP growth is one of the most serious causes. Therefore, sustainable economic development with environmental protection is both a mission and a goal of each country, especially in the context that many countries have transitioned gradually to a technology- and knowledge-based digital economy for a circular, green economy with the goal of sustainable development.
