Design of Container Terminal: A Case Study in Thailand

Good flow has been remarkably increasing due to the progress of industrialization nowadays. Despite the COVID-19 pandemic, Thailand’s Container Port Throughput has increased from 7 million TEUs to 10 million TEUs within 10 years. To accommodate and handle the increasing number of containers entering and leaving terminals, many containers terminal construction have been planned. In this paper, we conducted a preliminary design on container terminal X located in Thailand which includes three subsystems: berths, yards, and gates. These subsystems will be designed to satisfy stakeholder requirement in the context of enormous growth of container terminal throughput. Due to the complex and strong correlation of those areas, if there is any change in one of the subsystems, it will affect the other systems and terminal parameters must be recalculated. A sensitivity analysis is performed to determine the robustness of subsystems index. Based on the analysis, designers can find the sensitive parameter that needs to be controlled tightly.
