Haloculture: A Pathway to Reduce Climate Change Consequences for Societies

摘要

High carbon emission rates are the main causes of global climate change in the current industrialized world. Higher temperatures, increased carbon dioxide concentration, reduced amount and changing the distribution of precipitations, water and soil salinization, and land degradation are attributed to climate change. These negative influences have made human communities vulnerable in the matter of food security and rules ecosystem disorder, desertification, and dust storms. In fact, these vulnerable communities are inevitable to adapt to climate change for survival. Haloculture is a key to community adaptation, able to reduce economic and ecologic defects. Literally, haloculture is not a new technology; it is rooted in centuries of humans living in saline environments. This chapter aims to explain what the defects of climate change are and where they could occur, in which regions haloculture could help us, what its environmental impacts are, and how it can help us with climate change adaptation and reduce negative impacts.
