摘要

The security of water, energy, and food resources represent the cornerstones of sustainable development. The three aspects are essential for building resilient communities. Not only is water security a basic human right, but it is also necessary to maintain overall well-being, hygienic conditions, and health. Ensuring access to clean water is becoming increasingly important as population growth and climate change intensify. Ensuring energy security is crucial for promoting economic growth and ensuring access to water services and food resources. Food security is necessary to feed a growing world population, requiring water and energy resources to sustain agriculture and farming practices. The synergy between water, energy, and food security is crucial. A comprehensive strategy that incorporates these core SDGs is necessary to achieve long-term and all-encompassing sustainable development. This volume addresses the current status of water, energy, food, and the ecosystem in the MENA Region and the MED-Basin within the framework of core sustainable development goals, focusing on the current practices in the regions. This chapter provides an overview of the book chapters, their purpose, scope, and themes. The book discusses the current state and security of the WEF Nexus in the MENA Region, integrated approaches within the Nexus for rural development, solutions and technologies for the WEF Nexus and sustainable development in the Region, and sediment management strategies, global warming, and climate change. The findings are of great value to researchers, professionals, practitioners, and students who are undergoing research and projects in the field of sustainable development and water, energy, and food interaction.
