How Amazon Deforestation Affects Biodiversity

  • Erlijn van Genuchten

摘要

The Amazon rainforest, a crucial ecosystem for our planet’s ecosystem and biodiversity, is facing significant deforestation, which means that many trees are being cut down. This deforestation has far-reaching consequences as it impacts vegetation and animals, disturbing the natural balance of the ecosystem. Vegetation is affected by changed plant species composition, leading to savannization and degraded ecosystems. Animals, such as the harpy eagle, are also affected by deforestation as they hunt and nest in high trees; when 70% of the trees are cut down, they struggle to survive as they can’t find enough food or reproduce. This can even lead to species going extinct.
