Conclusion

The chapter summarizes the main premises and findings of the book. This book presented an interlayered analysis through everyday encounters in regulated mobilities to understand socio-spatial togetherness in Istanbul. Rather than proposing a macro determinant, I aimed to question and understand the impact of the ordinary, everyday spatial practices experienced from below in making sense of togetherness. Hence, the book centered on Istanbulites’ practices and perceptions of others while spending an average of two hours with the regulated and automatized socio-spatial experience of the metrobus, almost as a necessity. Consequently, with the effect of metropolitan everydayness experienced through nostalgia, commodification, and alienation, interlocutors generate an increasing necessity and dependency with the bus rapid transit by appropriating its conduct and generate transit subjectification while being with diverse and plural others. The framing essence characterized by these two layers is reflected in interlocutors’ perceptions and practices by generating a dissolving essence of togetherness in Istanbul. I framed these negated findings through differentiation, insecurity, and indifference. Finally, I presented some limited possibilities reflecting on public premises of togetherness shared as visibility and relative proximity and concluded the analysis.
