Introduction: Dissensus as a Trigger and Consequence of the Rule of Law Crisis in the EU

The introductory chapter provides for a brief state-of-the-art of the existing literature on the rule of law crisis in the EU before explaining the object of the volume and the conceptual framework. Indeed, the book critically assesses the EU rule of law instruments from the standpoint of their respective procedure of enforcement, with a special focus on the interplay, overlappings and synergies between them in tackling the rule of law backsliding in the Member States. It does so by using the academic and institutional dissensus on these very instruments as the starting point of the analysis.
