Hybrid Conceptual Modelling of Social and Socio-technical Systems Within Organisations: A Qualitative Semi-systematic Review

An often-overlooked activity within the software engineering of computational models for social and socio-technical systemsSocio-Technical Systems is the development of a comprehensive conceptual model (Williams in J Simul, 2022 [1]). With specific reference to modellingModelling these systems within their organisational environment, we not only have to define the scope of the resultant simulationSimulation with respect to actors/technical resources, individual and system-level behaviours/dynamics, environment and abstraction level but also have to cater for the added challenge of dealing with a variety of qualitative and quantitative data. This introduces the need to utilise a number of analytical techniques that are specific to the different types of data and provide complementary views of the complex system, resulting in a hybrid conceptual model.
