Sequence Alignment in the Genome Era

Human beings exchange information through sequences of sounds, written characters, and images, and transfer this information into computers to be represented and processed as sequences of bits. This chapter deals with the comparison of sequences using specific algorithms, with reference to problems in molecular biology.
