Environmental Awareness of Preschool Children in Indonesia Through Nature Drawing

The current research examines children’s environmental awareness through their drawings. The study involves 59 students aged 5–6 years from two different schools. The students were asked to draw pictures of nature. The data analysis was carried out using quantitative and qualitative approaches. The quantitative analysis was done by analyzing the objects present in the drawing, which were grouped into four categories: humans, animals, the environment, and artificial objects. Then, the qualitative analysis was carried out to provide a descriptive analysis of the students’ drawings. The results show that all students drew environment drawings, 56.9% drew human beings, 18.6% drew animals, and 71.1% drew objects. This indicates that most of the students are aware of inanimate environmental entities, such as mountains and the sun but have less awareness of animate entities, such as animals. The results also indicate that most students view themselves as environmental entities, reflecting inclusiveness.
