Coupled Peridynamic and Finite Element Analysis in the Presence of Initial Strain

This chapter presents a general approach to perform bond-based (BB), ordinary state-based (OSB), and non-ordinary state-based (NOSB) peridynamic (PD) analysis coupled with finite element (FE) analysis for deformation due to initial strain field. Both the PD and FE regions can be modeled with uniform or nonuniform discretization. The PD and FE regions share the same nodes along their interface without a transition zone and constraint conditions. The resulting global system of equations includes the contributions arising from the PD nodes and FE nodes. These equations can be solved simultaneously without requiring an iterative procedure through implicit methods.
