Peridynamics for Failure Prediction

This chapter presents an approach to numerically determine the critical bond stretch value for bond-based (BB), ordinary state-based (OSB), and non-ordinary state-based (NOSB) peridynamic (PD) models. Also, it demonstrates the applications of critical stretch criteria for failure prediction in the Ansys framework through implicit bond breakage algorithm. The specific applications concern double cantilever beam (DCB) and three point bending (TPB) specimens modeled through uniform and nonuniform discretization. For computational efficiency, the models are constructed by coupling the finite element (FE) and PD regions.
