摘要

Injury remains the most common cause of death and disability in childhood. Injury morbidity and mortality surpass all major diseases in children and young adults, making trauma the most serious public health and healthcare problem in this population. A general understanding of the mechanisms and patterns of injury in pediatric patients is essential to provide best care for affected children. Anatomic, physiologic, and social factors contribute to a child’s vulnerability to trauma. The use of a detailed primary survey and secondary survey to assess for involvement from trauma is important. Special considerations regarding non-accidental trauma; head, dental, cervical spine, and long bone injuries, and radiation risk from imaging deserve special attention in children.
