Evolution in Surgical Management for Movement Disorders
摘要
Functional surgery for movement disorders is a dynamic and most rapidly evolving field in neurosurgery. This conform to the major leap witnessed recently in digital science, neurobiology, advancement in neuroimaging, and promotion of modern surgical technologies. Leading international research endeavors prompted new therapeutic transformation and lead to new disease modifying therapeutic options including deep brain stimulation variations (DPS) and magnetic resonance-guided focused ultrasound (MRgFUS). However, efforts are still pending to achieve a future curative treatment. Patient’s selection for the best therapeutic modalities remains of paramount importance and should be discussed among a team of experts in order to score a satisfactory treatment outcome. As of today, both aforementioned surgical treatment options such as DBS and MRgFUS stay at the forefront of the management list, each has its own merits, indications, and potential pitfalls.
