Three Times a Victim. An Overview of the Judicial and Journalistic Representation of Gender-Based Violence

  • Flaminia Saccà

摘要

The stereotypes and prejudices that characterize the social representation of gender-based violence are rooted in the unbalanced power relations between genders and tend to reproduce it and legitimize it. After having analysed 16.715 articles and 283 court judgments, we have found that these stereotypes produce a distorted narration, that frames the situation in a way to redistribute the responsibilities between the culprit and the victim, ending up empathizing with the criminal and blaming the woman, making her three times a victim, and exposing her to secondary and tertiary victimization.
