Methodology
摘要
This chapter presents a mixed-methods approach that integrates both quantitative and qualitative analyses for examining Adult Learning Systems (ALSs) in Central European (CE) countries, adhering to Evan Lieberman’s principles of Nested Analysis. This comprehensive methodology starts with a broad quantitative examination, utilising large-N datasets from international surveys such as the OECD’s International Adult Literacy Survey, the Adult Education Survey (AES), the Programme for the International Assessment of Adult Competencies (PIAAC), and the Labour Force Survey (LFS). This step aims to identify unique characteristics and participation disparities within AET across these nations. Subsequently, the chapter details a focused small-N qualitative analysis rooted in historical institutionalism. This analysis explores the development of AET within CE countries by examining the coordination mechanisms, supply, and demand aspects of ALSs.
