General Analytical Approach

  • Jan Kalenda

摘要

The forthcoming chapter unveils a novel analytical framework to examine Adult Learning Systems (ALSs) in Central European (CE) countries. This framework is designed to navigate the unique challenges these countries present to traditional comparative methods in adult education research, stemming from their distinct historical and socio-political backgrounds. The chapter introduces the concept of the Global Adult Learning Space (GALS) as a means to delineate the quantitative aspects of ALSs. This approach draws on Pierre Bourdieu’s notion of social space, enabling a nuanced understanding of the complexities and dynamics of ALSs that transcend basic categorisations. Furthermore, the chapter delves into the qualitative attributes of ALSs. Additionally, the chapter outlines a suite of concepts for investigating institutional development. It highlights the significance of institutional history, critical junctures, coalition formations, path dependency, the spread of policy discourse and instruments, state capabilities, and societal pressures in the evolution of ALSs.
