A Review of Using Educational Technology to Teach Chinese Language in Canada

The chapter discusses the topic of using educational technology to teach Chinese in Canada. Firstly, it explores the general advantages of utilizing educational technology, including optimizing the teaching process, updating teaching methods, improving the learning environment, enriching teaching resources, and transforming Chinese language examinations. Additionally, it emphasizes how educational technology facilitates language learning through multimedia, online courses, and e-learning platforms, while underscoring the importance of teacher training in integrating educational technology into language instruction. Furthermore, it explains how educational technology assists in teaching language elements such as pronunciation, vocabulary, grammar, and Chinese characters, while fostering learners’ skills in listening, speaking, reading, writing, and overall language proficiency. Lastly, it discusses future research directions in this field, including the application of multimodal theories in Chinese language teaching, the construction and utilization of ecological environments and resources for language instruction, enhancing language teachers’ competence in utilizing educational technology, and the role of international collaboration in remote Chinese language teaching.
