When I arrived in France almost 20 years ago to continue work at the Rothschild Foundation Hospital in Paris, I was equally engaged in adult and pediatric neurosurgery for the first years. Gilles Robert was at that time the head of the department and a passionate and very skillful neurosurgeon with an expertise in skull base and vascular neurosurgery. In pediatric neurosurgery, Olivier Delalande was heading a separate unit with a particular emphasis on pediatric epilepsy surgery, which was nationally at the forefront in invasive diagnostics and surgery of childhood epilepsy, particularly for infants and young children. I soon developed a particular intellectual affection for this field, for its theoretical framework and the multidisciplinary approach during the presurgical evaluation process, in particular the weekly epilepsy staff meetings with numerous case discussions. In fact, I had missed all the years before as a young neurosurgeon this kind of multidisciplinary approach: the presence of specialists of neighboring disciplines who participate in the diagnostic process and the care of our common patients. I finally found this for me a very satisfying constellation in pediatric epilepsy surgery.
