Someone once said that neurosurgery is an affectation of an affluent society. Affectation may not be the perfect word, but it has a nice alliteration with affluent. Our impact on the overall health and well-being of a society is very small but very large to those whom we treat. It is most satisfying to know that one can make a significant difference in an infant/child’s life for many decades to come. For most of us in pediatric neurosurgery, it is a calling more than anything else.
