Pediatric Maxillofacial Trauma
摘要
This chapter highlights the unique considerations involved in evaluating and treating craniofacial trauma in pediatric patients. Factors such as differences in anatomy, bone composition, and mechanisms of injury necessitate careful attention from treating surgeons. The chapter discusses how pediatric patients, particularly those under three years old, are more prone to orbital roof fractures due to their craniofacial ratios and lack of sinus pneumatization. It also delves into the growth patterns of the craniofacial region, emphasizing the importance of timing in surgical interventions to avoid complications. Various types of fractures, including orbital roof, floor, medial wall, and lateral wall fractures, are discussed along with their clinical presentations and management strategies. Additionally, emerging trends such as patient-specific implants and three-dimensional modeling for surgical planning are explored, suggesting promising directions for future advancements in pediatric maxillofacial trauma care.
