Introduction to Selected Digital Technologies

This chapter presents the digital technologies that will be covered in the remainder of this book. Additionally, theories that help organizations to adopt and end users to accept those digital technologies will be explained. Our selection of digital technologies is seen from the perspective of their adoption over time while also referring to an underlying hype cycle. Furthermore, the profiles of interviewed academic and business experts, along with a positioning of the interview questions, will be included. Eventually, by addressing seven digital technologies from various technical and non-technical perspectives, the reader will acquire a comprehensive understanding of a specific technology’s strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats. All inputs in the remaining chapters will facilitate some type of benchmarking between digital technologies, allowing for more informed and sustainable business decisions in organizations.
