Land Tenure as a Challenge Facing Urban Development in Egypt: Participatory Approach

摘要

Urban development of cities is essential to upkeep the entity of cities at all stages of their development. It ensures a balanced urban growth that aligns with economic and social growth and in accordance with the environmental and local potentials. Land acquisition, to accommodate urban expansion and provide housing and services to all segments of society, seems to be of great importance considering the tenure of existing land. The study aims to assess the impact of land tenure on the urban environment during the different stages of the city’s growth and development, such as urban upgrading and renewal. It argues that land tenure can be considered one of the most important challenges facing urban development in Egypt. Partnership emerges as an active tool for negotiating land rights in development processes.
