Team-Based Learning as a Tool for Active Learning of English in a STEM Writing Course
摘要
This chapter presents a theoretical investigation of how team-based learning (TBL), an active learning methodology that emphasizes individual accountability and group work, can be used in an academic writing course for STEM undergraduate students. It begins with a brief introduction of the TBL methodology in the context of active learning in Japanese higher education. It then presents a description of how the learning modules can be implemented into the syllabus, with some examples of the classroom activities for a writing course. The chapter concludes with a brief discussion of the implications, potential drawbacks, and benefits for STEM courses taught in a second language, which can be informative for higher education institutions to effectively implement English-based courses in their STEM curriculum.
